Patient information

What shall I do after tooth extraction?

  • Squeeze the roll of gauze inserted by your dentist for 30 minutes.
  • Do not eat until the effect of the anaesthetic has faded away (to avoid biting your lip or tongue and prevent food from getting into your airways).
  • Do not consume dairy products for three days after the operation.
  • Avoid sucking the operation site or using a drinking straw (the blood clot at the site of the extraction promotes wound healing. If it falls out, it will leave a whole).
  • Avoid disturbing the site with your tongue.
  • Keep maintaining good oral hygiene and brush your teeth before going to bed even on the day of the extraction.
  • Do not rinse your mouth.
  • If the wound starts bleeding, bite on a clean piece of gauze or roll of tissue and squeeze it for 15 minutes. If the bleeding does not stop, call your dentist.
  • Do not smoke.
  • Do not consume alcohol.
  • Avoid swimming (pool water must not get into your mouth), going to the sauna, solarium or wellness facilities, or having cosmetic treatment or massage.

What shall I do after the operation?

  • Cool the area with ice for 24-48 hours. Thus you can avoid swelling of your face. Start cooling your face with an ice pack wrapped in a towel immediately after the operation (alternate cooling for 10 minutes and resting for 10 minutes).
  • Take the prescribed medications. If your dentist has prescribed antibiotics, start taking them a day before the operation in the morning.
  • Do not eat until the effect of the anaesthetic has faded away (to avoid biting your lip or tongue and prevent food from getting into your airways).
  • Do not consume dairy products for three days after the operation. Recommended diet: tea, soup, soft drink.
  • Avoid sucking the operation site or using a drinking straw (the area of the operation closed with stitches starts healing after 2-3 days. If you keep sucking the wound, you disturb the healing process and the integration of the bone substitute if it was also inserted).
  • Do not smoke.
  • Do not consume alcohol.
  • Keep maintaining good oral hygiene and brush your teeth before going to bed even on the day of the intervention, although avoid brushing the site of the operation.
  • Avoid swimming (pool water must not get into your mouth), going to the sauna, solarium or wellness facilities, or having cosmetic treatment or massage. Avoid straining. Consult your dentist before planning such activities.
  • If the wound starts bleeding, bite on a clean piece of gauze or roll of tissue and squeeze it for 15 minutes. Repeat it twice. If the bleeding does not stop, call your dentist.
  • After the operation you should come back to the clinic every day. It is really important to have your wound cleaned every day, because this is how we can monitor the healing process.

What shall I do after the operation involving the insertion of EMDOGAIN?
